Your typical Italian eats pizza constantly, speaks with unsuppressed passion and inks images of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on his butt. Welcome to the life of Ugo Galelli. Mix this enthusiasm with a little digital prowess, a hint of social knowledge, sprinkle in a film & fine arts degree and you’ve got one spicy meatball, dude.
I find it hard to pick one title for myself, but don’t we all? Maybe I’m just one of those selfish types that wants to have a go at everything. To me it’s about finding out what fits, what feels weird in a good way and what feels weird in a lets-not-try-that-again way. I look for the modern, un-tried paths for brands and then switch it up with a little movement, dress it up, strip it back and stick it out there for the world to see. I prefer to experiment with the world around us, to see the direction society is moving and rather than follow it, steer it somewhere else. Because, why not?
I started out with a fine arts background in Milan. I channeled my passion for video-art, music and innovation into an art director role at TBWA, where Adidas, YouTube, Vodafone and Google+ became my client list.
When I moved to London 7 years ago, I brought my drum sticks and an empty note book. Soon the blank pages were filled with freelance work for Tyrone Lebon's DoBeDo, art direction for Hi-Res! London, two years worth of creativity for M&C Saatchi and juicy portfolio of work for TMW Unlimited. Then things got bigger. After leading a small creative department for independent creative agency IMPERO I joined HeyHuman to start their Social Creative department. Next steps?
